ALEXANDRIA The Indeck Alexandria Energy Center has received its first wood chip fuel delivery, marking an important milestone in the effort to renew operations at the biomass plant.

When operational, the biomass electric generation facility will produce 16 megawatts of renewable electricity for distribution to the New England electric grid system.

"Our first delivery of clean wood chip fuel marks an important step in our efforts to upgrade the facility and renew operations," said Harry Smith, plant manager of the Indeck Alexandria Energy Center.

"When in operation, we anticipate using approximately 200,000 tons of whole-tree wood chips annually and being an important part of supporting the state's forest industry."

When fully operational, the plant will employ approximately 21 people and will support some 100 jobs in the New Hampshire forest industry through the purchase of clean wood chips.

The plant, originally developed and operated by Alexandria Power Associates, was purchased by Indeck Energy in 1997.

Indeck Energy is a privately held developer, owner and operator of renewable and conventional energy projects. As one of the few remaining privately held independent power producers, it has grown into a full-service energy company that offers biofuels production and electrical generation facilities.
